As Scientists, None of Us Work in a Vaccum

Consequently, my ideas were directly and indirectly influenced by my colleagues and predecessors and I suspect they will influence others. Some contributions are immediately recognized and others are unfortunately overlooked. Like most researchers, I always feel a certain humility that I am building on ideas of others—whether I am conscious of it or not. We all owe very much to other people.
